DIY Watercolors

Recently we went through our markers and I found a couple that no longer had much life in them. So I decided that I was not going to just toss them I was going to make them worth every penny that I spent on them.

My girls and I made some watercolors for them to paint with on some coloring book pages. This was really simple and even though the markers were running out of color once we started the process we seen that there was still a lot of life left in these markers

Give old markers a new life by making watercolors.

Materials:

  •  Old markers
  • Water
  • Containers

Directions:

  1.  Separate the markers by color
  2. Add each color to their own container, tip side down
  3. Add water
  4. Wait for about two days maybe more

That’s it!

Like how much color was still left in our old markers.

After about a couple of days you will have sucked all the color from the markers and the water will contain all the color. Our blue and green was so full of color that we were able to pour some in another jar and added some more water and it was still very pigmented.

Now, no, we didn’t get to paint in our coloring books the same day (this process took us some days.), but we did get to watch the colors daily and hourly as they changed. We watched it for about one and a half days, that was because we kind of forgot about it and then you know, life takes over. This helps make it that much better of project to take on.

Love how easy it is to make these watercolors.

We do this, too! Unfortunately we don’t go throw too many markers so it tends to be more work than it’s worth for us. Maybe I should try getting old markers from friends! Thanks for sharing at the Thoughtful Spot!

Did you like these to paint on their own?

I love this idea! I wish I would have seen it a few weeks ago, because I just threw away a bunch old markers. Now I have a reason to save them! My three old will love this. I have chosen you to be featured on this weeks #LaughLearnLinkup. Thanks for sharing with us,
