Easy Hands On Three Part Ladybug Counting Activity

Ladybug Counting

Hey yawl and welcome to another Playful Preschool Wednesday post. Where a group of mother and educators share some free themed hands on learning activities. Last week was about Castles and this week we’re talking Ladybugs.

My preschooler loves ladybugs, she enjoys catching them and letting them go, she likes to count the spots on them. So it was pretty easy for me to provide her with lessons that involved ladybugs. This activity that I am sharing with you uses some bottle caps that I painted to look like little ladybugs and we used them for lots of counting activities last week.

The goal for this week was to keep working on her 1:1 correspondence and focus our attention on word numbers up to three. (We focus on a number a week.) We also did some addition and subtraction but she don’t know that yet. She thinks it’s called sharing and being shared with.

I know you have all seen them three part learning card printables. Well I tried them and my preschooler didn’t like them so I decided to do what I always do. Make the worksheet hands on learning fun. So here is our preschool ladybug math activity.

Ladybug Counting

  • Word number cards
  • Bottle cap numbers
  • Ladybug counters (any kind of counters will do)

How we played:

  1. Pull a bottle cap number
  2. Count out that many ladybugs
  3. Find the word number

This was super simple and because we were only working to three she was done really quickly with this. So I added a few more numbers to our activity because she was into it.

I stored the cards, numbers, and ladybugs inside a zip lock bag and let it stay in their basket on their desk for the week. She pulled them out every morning on her own and played.

As usual you know we have a video to share with you all that they couldn’t get enough of this week. We enjoyed ” Luke and Lexi Ladybug” on FarFaria and “The Ladybug Song” for this week’s theme.
