We have another new addition to our Easy Sensory Bin Recipes by Theme this year. I have been waiting to try these out. While Baby G still kind of mouths things I do keep a close eye on her for this kind of play. I have seen lots of toddler and preschool bins with these water beads around and I had been shopping and asking all the store clerks for “Water Beads” when they’re really called “Water Gems”
This was by far one of my favorites! It took minimal time for setup to play with. All you need is Water Gems a bin and the recommended amount of water.
At first it wasn’t interesting to them when I first put them in. They started to play with other things, then when they turned to look at the Water Gems again they had gotten bigger.
We used a magnifying glass to get a closer look at the gems as they were absorbing the water.
Every time they stopped playing with them and came back they were bigger. This was the fascination that kept them playing with these Water Gems all day.
I have quite a few projects, lessons, and sensory bins in mind for these. We got a lot of learning out of these for our first time use. The use of these gems brought up water absorption, time, and a few other things that I need to now touch on.
Oh! Baby G didn’t put any in her mouth.
Have you introduced your toddler or preschooler to Water Gems/ Beads?
If you like sensory play here I have a board dedicated to sensory play.
